What a home Christmas light package looks like from the curb
Stand across the street from a house we lit and here is what you see. A clean line of C9 bulbs along every gutter edge, following the gables and peaks so the whole silhouette of the house reads from the road. Minis wrapped around the trunks of the maples at the driveway, up to the first branches. Shrubs along the foundation lit so the glow sits evenly instead of bunching at the top. A wreath on the front door and one on each front-facing window. Ground stakes along the walk. Nothing sagging, no extension cord across the lawn, and at 11 PM the timer shuts it all off.
Christmas Lights North Atlanta started in Cumming in 2018 and has installed more than 7,500 home displays since. The crews now work across metro Atlanta, and the housing stock changes a lot across that map: two-story colonials with foyer peaks in Johns Creek, brick ranches in Smyrna and Decatur, craftsman bungalows in-town, and new builds with long straight fascia runs in Cumming and out toward Lawrenceville. Each one gets measured and designed on its own.
That measurement is the whole quote. We count linear feet of roofline along every edge in the design, note the story count and where the roof can be reached, and list each tree and shrub by size. Denser designs, like outlining both the gutter edge and the peaks, use close to twice the product of a single run, so the quote is itemized line by line and any line can be kept or cut. The lights are ours: commercial-grade LED C9s for the roofline and 5mm minis for trees and shrubs, on cord we cut to length. Clips hook the shingle edge or gutter lip with no staples or screws, and the crew is fully insured for ladder and roof work.
The season is short. Installs run from late October to mid-December, Monday through Saturday, and the two weeks before Thanksgiving fill first. Photos or a quick visit, then a written design that lists each element: gutter edges, peaks, dormers, columns, trees, shrubs, wreaths, pathway. You approve the plan and the itemized quote together, so there is no guessing about what the crew will hang or what each line adds.
Full service through January
Design, product, installation, timers, in-season service calls at no charge, and January takedown are all inside one package. Labeled storage is optional. The only thing you do all season is leave the porch light on for the crew if the install runs past dusk.
Commercial-grade LED, custom-cut
C9 LED bulbs on heavy outdoor cord cut to the exact footage of your roofline, with screw-in bulbs that are replaced one at a time if one ever fails. LEDs draw a small fraction of what incandescent bulbs pull, so a full display runs on one or two circuits and barely moves the power bill.
Our step-by-step installation process
Every home follows the same seven steps, and none of them involve you on a ladder.
Step 1: Photos or a visit. Two phone pictures of the front of the house through the contact form are enough for most homes; tall or heavily treed lots get a free visit instead.
Step 2: Measure and design. We count roofline footage along every edge in the plan, note stories and roof access, list trees and shrubs by size, and write the design and the itemized quote together.
Step 3: Approve and schedule. The number holds once you approve it, and you pick from the open install dates.
Step 4: Install day. Cord is cut to each run on site, bulbed, clipped at every socket along gutters and peaks, and powered from the nearest exterior outlet with the run tucked along a downspout.
Step 5: Test and set the timer. The display is switched on, walked from the street, adjusted, and left on a dusk timer with your chosen off time.
Step 6: Service through the season. A dark section is a phone call, and the fix is at no charge.
Step 7: January takedown, with optional labeled storage so next year starts sorted.
Custom residential lighting designs
The base design for most homes is warm white C9s along the gutter edge. It outlines the house, it suits brick and stone, and it is the design neighbors copy. The next layer is the peaks: outlining the gables and dormers turns a baseline into a silhouette, and on a two-story it roughly doubles the footage, so it is worth deciding on purpose. Columns at the entry take a wrap of minis or a garland with lights woven through. Front-facing windows take wreaths. The walk takes ground stakes on an even spacing.
Color is the other decision. Warm white reads classic. Cool white reads brighter on newer homes with white trim and black windows. Multicolor is what most families with young kids choose, and mixing is common, with the roofline in warm white and the shrubs in red and green. Icicle strands hang from the gutter edge for a snow-line look. Net lights cover a shrub quickly and evenly; minis wrapped over a shrub look fuller. Safety-focused installation
Ladder falls are the injury behind most DIY holiday lighting, and they happen on the second trip up, in the cold, with a strand in one hand. Our crews set extension ladders on levelers for uneven ground, keep three points of contact, and work steep pitches from the ladder rather than the shingles. Two-story eaves and foyer peaks are reached with taller ladders and a second crew member footing them. Nobody works a wet roof; if rain moves in, the install slides to the next dry window and you get a call.
The electrical side gets the same care. Every run plugs into an outdoor-rated timer on an exterior outlet, and that outlet should be GFCI protected; if the only outlet on that side of the house is not, we tell you before install day so an electrician can swap it. Connections are kept off the ground and out of the gutter where water collects. Because LED draw is so low, a whole display usually shares one or two circuits instead of daisy-chaining extension cords across the yard. Crews are fully insured for ladder and roof work, which is the line to ask any installer about before they set foot on your property.
Homes across metro Atlanta
A metro Atlanta December brings cold snaps, a week of rain, and every few years an ice storm, and the display has to hold through all of it. Clips at every socket keep the line straight in wind. Cord rated for outdoor use shrugs off the rain. LED bulbs run cool, so they sit against wreaths and bark without drying anything out. If something does fail, in-season service calls are at no charge and the crew carries spare bulbs and cord.
Subdivisions bring their own rules. Most metro Atlanta covenants say nothing about temporary holiday lighting beyond a takedown date in January, and a few limit colors or ask for white only on street-facing elevations. What metro Atlanta homeowners ask before booking.
Will the clips damage my roof or gutters?
No. C9 cord rides in all-in-one clips that hook over the shingle edge or the lip of the gutter and hold by tension, so nothing is nailed, stapled, or screwed into shingles, fascia, or gutters. In January the crew unclips each socket and the roofline is exactly as it was in October. Gutter guards and metal roofs get a different clip, chosen on the site visit.
Can you light just the roofline?
Yes, and a single run along the gutter edges is where most first-year customers start. It outlines the shape of the house from the street and keeps the quote small. Peaks, wrapped trees, shrubs, wreaths, and a lit walkway can each be added in a later season, and because we keep the design on file, additions are planned to match what is already up.
When should I book?
By November 1st, for the 10% early-bird discount and first choice of install dates. Installs run from late October to mid-December, Monday through Saturday, and the two weeks before Thanksgiving are the first to fill. If you are booking later in November, send photos the same day you decide; dates are assigned as quotes are approved.
Is removal included?
Yes. January takedown is part of every residential package, and the crew removes the clips, timers, and extension runs along with the strands, coiling each run and tagging it by location. Labeled off-season storage is optional, so next fall the front roofline run comes back already sorted and the install takes less time.
Do I need to be home for the install?
No. Crews work from the exterior and need only an outdoor outlet and the approved design, so most installs happen while the homeowner is at work. If you want to walk the display with the crew or choose a timer schedule in person, tell us when you book and we schedule the install for a time you are there.
